I made my own deodorant! I’ve been meaning to do this for some time now. Every deodorant breaks me out. Even the ones without baking soda. At home, I use arrowroot powder mixed with lavender or lemon essential oil. But, I needed something a little extra while I’m out and about. There’s so many different recipes for making your own deodorant. I used what I had on hand already and went from there. And guess what? This recipe has no baking soda!

Ingredients

2 Tbsp Organic Coconut Oil
2 Tbsp African Shea butter
2 Tsp Bentonite clay
2 Tsp Arrowroot powder
10-15 drops Lavender essential oil
10 drops Lemon essential oil
2 Tsp Vitamin E oil

I use Young Living Essential oils. If you aren’t a member yet, take advantage of the great deals Young Living offers.

In my most recent recipe blend, I used Lemongrass essential oil.

Directions

Over a double boiler, melt the Shea butter. Add the coconut oil and melt. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes. Add the bentonite clay and arrowroot powder. Mix well. Add in essential oils and vitamin E oil.

This will not form into a solid unless it’s in the fridge because I didn’t use beeswax. If you happen to have beeswax you can add a couple of tablespoons in when melting the coconut oil and Shea butter.

I placed mine into the fridge (I used a glass jar I already had on hand) to let it set. I like the cool refreshing feeling when applying it.

I’ve made my own deodorant a few times in the past. You can definitely experiment and try different ingredients to see what works best for you. I chose no baking soda in mine because I have a horrible reaction to it.

If you are having some issues with staying dry, you can use a simple blend of arrowroot powder mixed with your favorite essential oil (about 10-15 drops of oil and 1 cup of powder).

Arrowroot powder mixed with lemon essential oil from young living makes a great stay dry powder. It’s safe to use on mom and baby.
