My name is Shakirra and I’m the face behind Crunchy Warrior Mama. I’m a wife, mom of 6, and entrepreneur. You might be wondering, why “Crunchy Warrior Mama?” Well, I consider myself “crunchy” for several reasons. But first, let me explain what “Crunchy” means. Crunchy or scrunchy, is someone who chooses to live a more green lifestyle. For example, I Baby wear, co-sleep, breastfeed, cloth diaper, home school, use holistic medicine, use green cleaning products, eat mostly plant based and I’ve had 2 home births. “Warrior” is for my son Malakai who has Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). SCD is an inherited blood disorder that affects the red blood cells and causes them to misshape into a crescent form. Which can result in a crisis. He’s a fighter and his strength signifies that of a true warrior. And of course, I’m a “Mama”. A busy one at that!

My husband and I have been married for almost 7 years and we have 6 children (ages: 10,9,9,5,2 & 8 months). That’s a lot I know. We are a blended family and I gave birth to 4 of them . We are constantly busy, but to be honest, we wouldn’t have it any other way. We are currently in our first year of homeschooling. We love going on adventures and exploring new things.

I created Crunchy Warrior Mama as a space to share and connect with other moms (and dads) on how to live a healthier life and how to manage sickle cell disease holistically. Join me as I share my journey.
